I can’t see my student

Logged into Connecting Steps or Evisense and can’t see any students information?
There are lots of different reasons why your student may disappear from Connecting steps or Evisense, so if this has happened to you make sure to go thought this list and it should help you fix your problem.

The first reason could be that a student has not been enabled for the software – so the student has been added to the system and is showing in their group on the Manage Students screen in MyBSquared, but they are not appearing in Connecting Steps (CS) or Evisense.

To make a student visible in Connecting Steps #

  1. Navigate to Manage Students in MyBSquared (Administrator rights required).
  2. Search for the student’s name. Use the Choose Filter drop down list or the alphabet to help you search.
  3. Ensure the software buttons next to the student’s name are green (meaning the students are active in CS and/or Evisense). If red, click to change to green.

When the buttons indicating software access are green the student appears in CS.

  1. Log out and log back in again to reload the group information.

The other reason for student disappearing is on the school’s start date (which is usually set to the 1st of September), students will move from their current registration group to their new assigned one. If their next assigned registration group is not set, they move out of their current registration group and will not be put into a new one, and so the student no longer appears in connecting steps. The student information is still all stored within the system, and as soon as students are put in a class for the new academic year, they appear again in CS and/or Evisense.

You can update classes in 2 ways: by importing students from your MIS system or setting a registration group for students manually using the bulk settings.

To import student data from your MIS system #

  1. Navigate to Manage Students in MyBSquared.
  2. Click Import Students and import a .csv (Comma Separated Value) created from your MIS system. This must contain at least first name, last name, DOB, gender, UPN, reg group, date of admission.

    This automatically moves your existing students to their new classes and adds any new students to the system.

Note: When you import, ensure students who are already in MyBSquared have a UPN attached to them. This means the import can match on it. If the UPN isn’t used then the system uses the first name, last name and DOB as a combination which can differ between our system and your MIS, resulting in duplicate students being added.

Setting a registration group #

  1. Navigate to Manage Students in MyBSquared.
  2. Search for the required students.
  3. Click the tick box in the select column next to the required student or students.
  4. Click in the Please Select field at the top of the page and select “set current year group” from the drop down list.
  5. Click Apply to the right of the field.

    A window will pop up showing the student you have chosen and a drop down box.
  6. Chose the year group you want the students to be assigned to.
  7. Click save.

Your student is added to the registration group and is now visible in CS and/or Evisense.

Note: You can also set the Next Year Group for the next academic year!
To create new classes navigate to the Manage Groups screen. Registration groups can not be added on the Manage Student Screen.
